Timber Decking Cleaning

As well as cleaning timber decking we also clean fences, sheds, cladding and garden furniture. The salt in the air of our coastal towns can wreck havoc on timber decking and although cleaning Timber Decking is usually quite straightforward (for us, anyway!), care must be taken to ensure that the use of high pressure water washers, does not damage the timber itself. This can lead to cracking and splitting, adding to the deterioration of the surface.

At DM External Cleaning we recommend the Softwash technique for timber structures. There are many advantages of using a Biocidal Wash to treat timber.

The active ingredient in Biocidal Wash is well-known to be a powerful wood preserver, which can protect timber against wet and dry rot. By applying a biocidal wash to treat timber structures you are gaining a valuable additional service above and beyond the initial cleaning. Jet-washing timber is not only likely to damage the surface of the timber it will also not give the long term residual protection from re-colonisation by green and black algae. Applying a biocidal wash yearly will keep your timber area free from rot and looking fantastic all year round.

Our Method Statement

The DM External Cleaning method when cleaning timber decking is to give the area a good sweep to remove any detritus, then using our low pressure washer we clean any dirt and grime from the surface, whilst sweeping away any excess water. We will then leave to dry for approximately 30-60 mins before applying a biocidal wash, making sure to get into joints and along edges and then leaving to dry.

Once correctly cleaned and allowed to dry out properly, if you desire, we can apply a whole variety of preservatives, varnishes , timber stains and even Decking paint, to either change, or enhance the appearance of your Decking.
