Render Cleaning

The majority of "dirt and grime" on exterior hard surfaces is actually the build up of biological growths such as algae, lichen, fungi, moss, or mould. This gives rise to the unsightly – and often dangerous and damaging – red, black, and green staining seen on walls, roofs, concrete, tarmac, block paving, timber decking, fences and sheds.

Softwashing using the right chemicals will remove the contamination and protect the surface from regrowth. We Softwash for the effective treatment and control of red algae, green algae, mildew, black fungus and mould.

So what is Softwashing?

Softwashing is the softer exterior cleaning treatment using professional use only biocide applied by trained applicators. At DM external cleaning we use a biocide provided by ‘Softwash Solutions’ a fully licensed powerful biocide, which gives a soft and gentle treatment that kills organic growth and disinfects without damaging surfaces or the environment. Once dry the solution is PH neutral and safe for your pets.

How is the biocide applied?

In most cases direct chemical injection in used. This eliminates human error and the risk of professional strength biocide being sprayed above maximum regulation. Normally the solution is applied from ground level using high reach equipment.

DM external cleaning has attended Softwash Solutions Biocide and (Chem specific) COSHH training and can be verified through their website www.softwashsolutions.ie.

How long does it take to work?

Cleaning time frames will depend on the type of biofilm and the biological load present on the surface being treated. For example red staining: the algae known as Trentepohlia can take 7-14 days and green algae/mildew can disappear within 24 hours. Black moulds/fungi will take longer, although the growth will be killed and the growth cycle halted. After application we will return on the 7th and 14th day to access, at this stage any residual staining may require further treatments and rinsing.

How long will is last?

The Softwash treatment, although not instant, gives proven longevity against power washing or other aggressive chemical treatments. On exterior walls and roofs you can expect in excess of 2 years. On horizontal surfaces like driveways and patios this will be less and will depend on the proximity of trees and other vegetation. On completion of the initial clean we can provide a maintenance program of treatment that will help keep the surface permanently clean, providing a long term solution.

What can it be used on?

The Softwash technique can be used on most exterior hard surfaces including coloured render, K-rend, pebble dash, dry dash, brick, painted surfaces, roofs, decking, timber, concrete, paving, tarmac or as a pre-paint treatment.
